UAE and Jordan Sign Four Agreements for $2.3 Billion, 400km Mining Railway Project
The UAE and Jordan have signed four agreements for a $2.3 billion, 400-plus kilometre railway project connecting the Port of Aqaba with key mining regions.
The UAE has finalized four bilateral agreements with Jordan to develop a $2.3 billion freight railway network. Expected to span over 400 kilometres, the strategic infrastructure corridor will connect the Port of Aqaba with Jordan's major mining production hubs, streamlining bulk commodity exports and deepening cross-border logistics integration between the two Arab nations.
The $2.3 billion initiative marks a transformative capital investment in regional rail and trade logistics. By linking inland mining hubs directly to maritime export terminals at Aqaba, the line will significantly lower freight haulage costs, expand mineral export throughput, and generate extended civil works contracts for regional infrastructure contractors and bulk material handlers.
Civil engineering contractors delivering the 400-plus kilometre rail alignment will need significant earthmoving and trackbed-preparation machinery, including heavy excavators, bulldozers, motor graders, wheel loaders, and compaction units. Equipment dealers in Jordan and regional UAE distributor hubs stand to capture major fleet orders, long-term rental agreements, and parts/service maintenance support packages over the multi-year construction lifecycle.
While situated primarily across Jordanian territory, the investment is backed by the UAE, highlighting the accelerating trend of GCC sovereign-backed infrastructure diplomacy. The network strengthens regional supply chains, providing high-capacity rail connectivity that directly supports regional commodity trade and commercial corridors between the Levant and the Gulf.
