Sharjah to Double Khor Fakkan Port Capacity in Major Logistics Push
Sharjah plans to more than double container capacity at Khor Fakkan Port alongside ongoing expansion at Sharjah Airport, boosting regional logistics and trade connectivity.
Sharjah is advancing key infrastructure initiatives aimed at bolstering logistics connectivity and trade capacity. Central to this strategy is a planned expansion of Khor Fakkan Port that will more than double its container handling capacity. In parallel, the ongoing expansion of Sharjah Airport aims to scale annual passenger throughput to approximately 25 million by 2027, driven by expanded terminal capacity and extended fleet operations by Air Arabia.
Doubling container capacity at Khor Fakkan—the UAE's primary deepwater port on the Gulf of Oman—enhances maritime redundancy and circumvents Strait of Hormuz chokepoints. Coupled with Sharjah Airport's capacity surge, these projects solidify the emirate's position as a multimodal transport hub, spurring civil engineering, dredging, and landside logistics construction activity.
Heavy civil expansion at deepwater terminals and airport expansions drives demand for high-capacity excavators, compaction gear, mobile cranes, and material-handling units. Regional equipment dealers and rental houses in the Northern Emirates will see sustained requirements for fleet leasing and site product support during civil construction.
Located on the UAE's eastern seaboard, Khor Fakkan provides direct access to the Indian Ocean. Its expansion reinforces the UAE's broader supply chain resilience and logistics capacity across both East Coast and Arabian Gulf maritime corridors.
